Types Of Clothing Labels And Their Uses

By Donald Johnson

Labeling is used for almost every product in the market. To some companies, it acts as a marketing tool to show the quality of the item so as, to gain more profits by increasing sales. To label textiles and garments, Clothing Labels are the best option. They can be used by the garment industry and designers who work at home. Sticking on the labels is fairly easy and can be done at home.

The labeling act as a spot for the designer to place their name and signature on the program. It is also used to show the size of materials, fabric and how to wash the cloth. It could either be through dry cleaning or hand washing. Some companies and schools also use the tag to place the name of the school or company on the cloth.

Labels are positioned at different spots on clothes depending on their function. A label showing the size is placed at the back of clothes, but on the inside. Wash care instructions label are on the inside part of clothes on the side, while the designer or manufacturer details and name of brands are on the outside part of garments to act as a marketing strategy.

The functions of the tags help categorize them into different types, size, content, care and brand tags. The size tags show whether the cloth is small, medium or big, a content label will show the material used to make the cloth, the manufacturer or designer is mentioned in the brand label and lastly the care labels to show the preferred manner of treating the material during washing.

They are further classified according to the display used for the information that is in two types printed and woven tags. In printed tags, the information is printed using a permanent ink and often made from cotton or synthetic material example polyester, nylon or satin. However, the printed types do not last as long as the woven types as the ink easily fades on washing.

In woven tags, the information is woven onto the tag which is made of either silk or damask. However, these materials are very expensive as compared to the other materials like cotton and other synthetics, leading to costly costs of production. Due to the high durability and long life of these tags, they can only be used in high-quality garments.

The last category of a label is according to the attachment of the label onto the clothes. There are three main ways of attaching on the tags. The stick on method is the fastest and cannot be removed when washing. Sew-on types use heat activated adhesive to stick onto the cloth while the last category sew-on types are easily sewed onto the cloth.

Home designers find the tags very convenient for them as brand tags will help market your products after selling them to any client. Schools and companies can also apply to get the tags to label the garments belonging to the institution. Custom designs are also available for clients who want to have designs that are unique.
