By Jason Campbell

Fake furs or faux furs are types of materials that are made from synthetic fibers and these are being designed for resembling a fur. The most common use of these materials is for clothing. The use of these has become more and more popular these days it is because of an increasing promotion of the animal rights and the animal welfare organizations who are claiming the materials as animal friendly clothing.

To clean these fake furs may be done through the use of many different ways including by the hands, by the washing machine, and by the dry cleaner. The three methods will depend upon the provided specifications on an item. But when you are not really sure on the specifications, it would be better to directly ask the manufacturer for the avoidance of damaging the material. The following are the 3 methods and their steps to clean the faux fur bedspread properly.

Machine wash faux fur. Before you immediately wash the material, make sure to check its tag. Most of the items are being provided by the manufacturer with a tag wherein all the important specifications and instructions are written. Though it will depend on you whether you are going to follow those instructions or not, these will still include some important tips which you need to notice.

The contents of a tag would include about the washing instructions, if its color will fade out, or whether it would be fine to wash it the same as how colored items are washed. This may also contain some standardized symbols which will indicate how an item must be cared for. Therefore, a tag can be very useful for you to know what step you will do next.

Put the item inside a washing machine. Avoid washing other items along with your fur. If this material is a part of garment, it must be turned inside out for avoiding it from being damaged or worn out. Better check as well if the machine is set right. A cold water must be used and the setting is delicate wash cycle. Turn on the machine then add an amount of mild laundry detergent.

You must also need to check if the machine has been to its least agitation for spin. After starting the rinse cycle, put a fabric softener and using cold water, rinse it. After the wash cycle, get the bedspread then shake it so that the excess water will be removed. Rolling the item into a thick towel may also help the water to be absorbed. Carefully pull the bedspread then slowly turn it into its original shape and dimension.

Hand wash faux fur. Make sure that you are making use of the right materials for hand washing. Use a lukewarm or cold water. This can help in maintaining the shape and the texture of the furs. Use only the mild laundry soap which is designed for a hand washing.

Spot cleaning technique may also be used. This technique can make the item last longer while maintaining its original texture. Mild detergent should be utilized when cleaning specific areas. Avoid on scrubbing too rough to avoid some damages. Rinse it using cold water then dry it.

Dry fake fur. Air drying is the best way to dry the item and not the electric dryer. Be sure to choose an area that is well ventilated. Placing it outside or adding a fan may be recommended to speed the process of drying.
